Cooler temperatures, higher humidity and fairly calm conditions aided firefighters battling dozens of fires around the region yesterday and today.
Evacuation orders associated with the 47,340 acre Walker Fire burning in Plumas National Forest were lifted, though most earlier road closures remain in place. US 395 remains open. The Evacuation Center in Susanville has closed.
Almost 1,100 firefighters are working to prevent its spread. The Walker Fire is 12 percent contained.
Calfire reported similar weather aided progress against the Swedes Fire burning in the foothills above Oroville where all evacuation warnings were lifted. The suspicious 400 acre fire was declared 60 percent contained this morning.
The blaze is burning mainly in the burn scar of the 2017 Wall Fire. In Tehama County, the Red Bank fire west of Red Bluff and south of Platina has scorched more than 8,800 acres and is 55 percent contained. State Route 36 remains open.
Evacuation warnings associated with the South Fire burning in Shasta Trinity National Forest west of Red Bluff however remain in place. A total of 150 Firefighters are concentrating on defending areas south of Cottonwood Creek and north of Nuisance Ridge. The fire has burned through close to 2,750 acres and is five percent contained.
In the Trinity Alps Wilderness, the Middle Fire has burned 350 acres in the drainages of Canyon Creek and Black Creek. Two firefighters were injured several days ago, battling in steep rugged terrain.
Meanwhile, the Ramshorn Fire northeast of Coffee Creek was estimated at 240 acres, it is among at least 20 lightning sparked fires detected in the Shasta trinity national forest.
