A group of health officers is warning the North State that ICUs could soon be overwhelmed.

The Rural Association of Northern California Health Officers (RANCHO) said Friday that it is gravely concerned patients with COVID-19 and other ailments could overwhelm ICU capacity by Christmas.

The group includes the health officers of the following counties: Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama and Mendocino.

The Northern California region still has adequate ICU capacity, according to the state. As of Monday, the state’s website listed the region at 28.7 percent.

However, the group of health officers noted the region only has about 120 ICU beds. If capacity falls below 15 percent, that would leave fewer than 20 beds for the Far North region and trigger regional stay-at-home orders.

The group of health officers urges people to keep their distance, wear their masks and limit mixing with crowds. Read the full letter HERE.
