Shasta County is setting aside more than 2,000 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
The move comes after a San Diego clinicreported a cluster of severe allergic reactions that is possibly linked to a specific batch of the vaccine.
Dr. Karen Ramstrom, Shasta County’s health officer, says the county and other health departments have conducted large vaccination clinics with the same Moderna batch in question without issue.
“We’re confident that these doses will become back online for us,” Ramstrom said. “It’s about 2,400 doses for us in Shasta County. So, we’ve been scrambling the last few days to push out other – and redistribute – doses to get our current booked clinics covered.”
Ramstrom says the county is focusing on vaccinating health care workers, long-term care facility residents and people who are 75 years old or older.
She says limited supply continues to challenge inoculation efforts.
