The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat warning starting Friday as triple-digit heat is forecast to return to the North State.
"We're forecasting high temperatures between 95 and 106 degrees," said NWS Meteorologist Sara Purdue. "We're expecting widespread moderate heat risk with areas of major heat risk as well."
Overnight lows won’t bring much cooling.
"We've seen triple-digit temperatures as late as mid-September in the past, and so even as we head into late summer, early fall, the risk of high temperatures isn't gone completely."- Sara Purdue, NWS Meteorologist
Forecasters also warn that the hot, dry pattern may raise fire weather concerns.
There’s a 10 to 25 percent chance of Sierra thunderstorms from Friday through Monday.
While this summer has been relatively mild, high temperatures could stick around for weeks to come.

"We've seen triple-digit temperatures as late as mid-September in the past, and so even as we head into late summer, early fall, the risk of high temperatures isn't gone completely," Purdue said.
Residents are warned to stay hydrated during extreme heat, and to stay inside or in the shade as much as they can. Exposure to direct sun for prolonged periods can be dangerous, and Purdue said that residents should avoid outdoor activities during the heat of the day as much as possible.
