KFPR Redding 88.9 is currently off the air. PG&E is working with station staff to assess the situation, which may be power related. The outage also affects our translators at 91.9 in Burney and 92.3 in Dunsmuir. Weather is a limiting factor in finding a solution, as the transmitter is difficult to reach and only accessible by helicopter when weather allows during winter months.
We understand that this has become a recurring problem since the Carr Fire destroyed the building and transmitter on July 27, 2018. The timing created a difficult race against time and weather to get equipment installed and operating before the single lane road to the top of Shasta Bally became impassible. This also affected PG&E and neighboring broadcast facilities at the location. We will update this message as we learn more.
