Shasta County is seeing declining case and positivity rates for COVID-19.
Robin Schurig, the county’s public health branch director, says if those trends hold, the county could move into a less restrictive tier status under the state’s reopening plan in two weeks. Schurig asked the public to stay home as much as possible and take precautions when going out.
“We also recognize that this weekend is Super Bowl Sunday, so people may be planning gatherings,” she said. “We would encourage you to not hold those gatherings at this time in order to help us move into that red tier.”
Shasta County is currently in the most restrictive purple tier, which signals widespread disease transmission. To move into the red, or substantial, tier, Schurig says the county’s overall test positivity rate — and the positivity rate for disadvantaged communities — must remain under 5 percent. The county’s adjusted case rate — last measured at 25 new daily cases per 100,000 people — must also remain about the same or continue to decline.
