Chico Food Maxx murder | Sierra snow record | CalFresh benefits
A man accused of homicide and leaving the body at Food Maxx is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow. Also, the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab is recording a season total of 56.4 feet of snow on Donner Summit, and a pandemic-era rule that loosened restrictions on which students qualify for CalFresh is set to end in June.

A lawsuit filed against Chico Unified School District has sparked new legislation that opponents say would harm transgender youth. Also, a new bill approved by a senate committee this week requires California agencies to assess the need for electric vehicle charging stations in low-income and underserved communities, and concealed carry applications are skyrocketing across some of California’s most liberal counties.

Chico anti-camping enforcement | California school expulsions | Petition reform bill
The city of Chico began enforcing its anti-camping ordinances at its sanctioned encampment in north Chico. Also, state school officials with the California Department of Education say some districts have been covering up their expulsion rates, and a new bill would require training for referendum petition circulators.

Paradise RV ordinance | Fire hazard zones | Upcoming storms
The Paradise Town Council Friday voted to extend an ordinance that allows people to keep RVs and other temporary structures on their land. Also, the deadline to give public comment on Cal Fire’s map of fire hazard severity zones is approaching, and another series of atmospheric river storms is predicted to bring rain and snow to the North State.
