Mike is a native Californian, born in Los Angeles. But in the years just before Mike’s birth, his parents lived in Sacramento, made many friends here, and Mike spent a week of every summer as a child in Sacramento when the family would come to visit. He grew up on ice cream from Vic’s and Gunther’s and movies at the Crest and Tower.

Bernard J. Wolfson, Senior Correspondent and columnist for California Healthline, reports on the business of health care and writes a monthly consumer health column, “Asking Never Hurts.” Previously, Bernard was the business editor of the Orange County Register and its health care reporter, covering the rollout of the Affordable Care Act. He was a Pulitzer Prize finalist, along with two Register colleagues, for a groundbreaking report on cost vs. quality at 30 local hospitals. He also spent seven years as European editor for Market News International in Paris, where he supervised coverage of the eurozone debt crisis. Bernard holds a bachelor’s from the University of California-Berkeley and a master’s in international relations from Johns Hopkins University.

Alexei covers Gov. Gavin Newsom, the Legislature and California government from Sacramento. He joined CalMatters in January 2022 after previously reporting on the Capitol for The Sacramento Bee and the San Francisco Chronicle, where he broke the story of Newsom's infamous dinner at The French Laundry restaurant. Alexei is a Bay Area native and attended Stanford University. He speaks fluent Spanish.

Danielle Venton is a reporter for KQED Science. She covers wildfires, space and oceans (though she is prone to sea sickness). Before joining KQED in 2015, Danielle was a staff reporter at KRCB in Sonoma County and a freelancer. She studied science communication at UC Santa Cruz and formerly worked at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland where she wrote about computing. She lives in Sonoma County and enjoys backpacking.

Mallika Seshadri joined The Daily Californian in fall 2018 as a general assignment reporter and was the lead higher education reporter in spring 2019, a deputy news editor in fall 2019 and the city news editor in spring 2020. She also served as the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee chair during the 2020-2021 year and sat on the editorial board in spring 2021, fall 2021 and spring 2022.
