Erin Baldassari covers housing for KQED. She's a former print journalist making her first foray into radio. Erin most recently worked as the transportation reporter for the Mercury News and East Bay Times with a focus on how the Bay Area’s housing shortage has changed the way people move around the region. She also served on the East Bay Times’ 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winning team for coverage of the Ghost Ship Fire in Oakland. Prior to that, Erin worked as a breaking news and general assignment reporter for a variety of outlets in the Bay Area and the greater Boston area. A Tufts University alumna, Erin grew up in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains and in Sonoma County. She is a life-long KQED listener, a rider of motorcycles and a lover of history.

Hannah Recht is a data reporter at KHN. Before joining KHN, she worked at Bloomberg News as a data and graphics reporter, covering topics including health insurance policy and gender equity. She developed censusapi, an R package for easily retrieving U.S. Census data, and is an avid R programmer. She previously worked at the Urban Institute, including two years as a programmer on the Health Insurance Policy Simulation Model. She graduated from the University of Rochester with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and statistics and a minor in epidemiology.

Rachana Pradhan
Rachana Pradhan, Correspondent, reports on a broad array of national health policy decisions and their effect on everyday Americans. She came to KHN from Politico, where for five years she covered health care policy and politics on national and state levels. Rachana has been involved in several high-impact projects in her time as a health care reporter, including an investigation into former HHS Secretary Tom Price’s extensive use of private jets at taxpayers’ expense. The investigation, which resulted in Price’s resignation, was a 2018 finalist for the American Society of News Editors’ O’Brien Fellowship Award and earned an honorable mention in the White House Correspondents’ Association’s Edgar A. Poe award. Rachana’s other reporting stints include covering city government for The Daily Progress newspaper in Charlottesville, Virginia, and reporting on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act for Inside Health Policy, a health care trade publication. She graduated from James Madison University.

Lauren Weber, Midwest correspondent, is covering how America’s health system is working — and not working — for patients in that region. Based in St. Louis, her hometown, she tackles everything from rural hospital closures to health system consolidation to state and national reform promises made on the 2020 campaign trail. Formerly a health policy reporter for HuffPost based in Washington, D.C., she has covered a wide variety of topics including Ebola and hepatitis A outbreaks as well as the health of migrant detainees. While at HuffPost, she also created “The Morning Email,” a weekday rundown of the news, and served as the voice of HuffPost on Amazon Echo. She was a 2017 USC Annenberg Health Journalism National Fellow.
