Interview: Democratic House candidate Kermit Jones challenges Kevin Kiley for 3rd Congressional District
Democratic candidate Kermit Jones is running to represent California’s newly redrawn 3rd Congressional District. He is challenging Republican candidate Kevin Kiley. Jones is currently a family physician. He is also a lawyer and a Navy veteran who served in Iraq. NSPR’s Jamie Jiang recently interviewed Jones about wildfire mitigation, education and climate action. Listen to the interview.

Chico’s Measure L addresses public nuisance standards
If passed, Measure L would hold the City of Chico to the same public nuisance laws as private property owners. Some examples of public nuisances include property that is deemed dangerous to public health, or is unsightly or dilapidated.

3 people arrested in connection with Teichert Ponds shooting, Chico police say
Three people were arrested in connection with a shooting at Teichert Ponds Sunday, according to a press release from the Chico Police Department. The department reports a man called dispatchers to say he had been shot while inside his tent around 10 p.m. He was transported to Enloe Medical Center for gunshot wounds to his arm and leg. The shooting follows a fatal shooting at Teichert Ponds last year.

Newsom intends to end COVID-19 emergency declaration
Gov. Gavin Newsom will end California’s COVID-19 state of emergency in early 2023 barring a surge in cases. Most of the emergency provisions have already sunset, and Newsom plans to terminate the rest on Feb. 28. He’s also asking state lawmakers to pass a bill to allow nurses to continue to give out COVID-19 treatments.
