Black History Month

Wal Riek is the owner and cook of the late-night soul food fusion restaurant called Black Wal Street Café. The business will be at the former Midnite Munchies location in the Safeway parking lot on Nord. He says it’ll open this April, if not sooner.

This week we continue our celebration of Black History Month, and love stories, centered on the cooperative, and communal concept of Ujaama, in conversation with Bonnetta Adeeb of Ujaama Seeds, and the Ujaama Cooperative Farming Alliance, and Nathan Kleinman of the Experimental Farm network, a member and collaborator in the Ujaam alliance and all that it is growing – which is both uplifting and delicious.

February is Black History Month, and colleges across the North State are holding events and workshops to celebrate. Also, low-income Californians will soon have their grocery budgets slashed due to the end of a pandemic assistance program, and a government survey found that more than 36 million trees died in California last year.
