Heavy rainfall is causing some roads in Butte County to flood.
Kevin Soukup with Butte County Search and Rescue said one person was partially submerged in their vehicle this morning.
The driver had to be rescued after being stranded as heavy rainfall caused rapid flooding.
“We got a call there was a stranded vehicle out on Cana Highway, just a little bit north of Chico. We went out and located the stranded pickup truck with an occupant and we used our paddle rafts to go out there and bring him to dry land,” Soukup said.
This wasn’t the only incident that required a rescue in Butte County.
Cal Fire released a video showing two people and a dog getting rescued from a car surrounded by waist-high, flowing water in north Chico last night. Floodwater also caused traffic stoppages for several hours on Highway 99 in Tehama County this morning.
“Right now is the time of the year we normally see a big increase in water rescues,” Soukup said. “When the roads flood, sometimes they flood quickly, and people are taken by surprise and overcome with water.”
The Butte County Sheriff’s Office is advising residents to drive with extreme caution.
Drivers should avoid driving through large puddles of standing water, or rapidly flowing water. When in doubt, they urge that it's better to turn around than risk requiring rescue.
Motorists can check for road closures and traffic incidents on the California Highway Patrol’s traffic information page.
This week’s bomb cyclone will continue to bring heavy precipitation to the North State through Tuesday.
