Chico State Plans To Hold 30 Percent Of Classes In Person This Fall

California State University, Chico

California State University, Chico plans to open its campus to thousands of students for the upcoming fall semester.

Chico State President Gayle Hutchinson said Friday that the school expects to hold up to 30 percent of classes in person if local COVID-19 restrictions allow.

“What that means is roughly 5,000 students will be on campus for classes during the week,” Hutchinson said. “Additionally, students will have an opportunity to participate in face-to-face student activities on a limited basis with their clubs and organizations.”

Hutchinson delivered the remarks during her 2021 State of the University address. She said school officials consulted Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for universities, as well as the state’s color-coded tier system known as the Blueprint for a Safer Economy

Hutchinson said Butte County must move from the purple tier – which signals the coronavirus is widespread – to a less restrictive tier to implement the fall plan. This spring semester will be held virtually regardless of the county’s tier status.
