California Gov. Gavin Newsom will give his annual State of the State address tonight. This year’s speech will be a little different, and not just because of the pandemic.
Normally, California's governor gives the ceremonial address during the day, at the State Capitol, in front of state lawmakers. But Newsom is moving this year’s speech to an evening slot, and he’ll be in Los Angeles, delivering the address virtually.
With the one-year anniversary of the first stay-at-home orders just around the corner, the coronavirus pandemic is sure to take center stage.
Newsom says he plans to highlight what he calls the “quiet heroes” of the pandemic — people like farmworkers and caregivers. His annual address also comes as a recall signature-drive nears its deadline. Backers say it’s only weeks away from qualifying for the ballot."
CapRadio will carry the governor's address live and provide analysis starting at 6 p.m.
