Chico State has seen an enrollment increase this fall that has surpassed the system-wide average.

The California State University system has reported a record 2 percent enrollment increase in a preliminary count.

This is the second year in a row the 23 universities have seen an all-time high number of students.

Andrew Staples, Chico State’s public relations manager, said the university has seen a 4 percent increase from last year.

“We're working really hard to bring in more students. We've done stuff here locally in the North State region,” Staples said. “We're doing a bunch of digital marketing. We're reaching out to students all over the state.”

Staples said some of that work includes engaging with local community colleges to help guide students to transfer to Chico State and using events like Wildcat Weekend to attract more attention to the university.

Chico State’s increase adds around 600 enrolled students to the campus.

“That's about 600 extra students compared to last fall. I think our headcount is just shy of 14,600 so that's obviously a good development here and is the second year in a row that enrollment is up,” Staples said. “So we're looking forward to keeping the momentum going.”

This year, Chico State’s transfer class is at around 2,000 students.
