Updated at 5:25 p.m. This is our final update on this story.

Power has been restored to Chico residents who lost electricity this afternoon.

PG&E spokesman Paul Moreno told NSPR that around 400 customers are still without power across Butte, Shasta, Tehama, Glenn and portions of Plumas and Lassen counties. Their power is expected to be restored by tonight.

This is after nearly 6,000 Chico residents had lost electricity during the ongoing winter storm this afternoon.

The outages affected areas of south Chico, including the Barber and Chapman neighborhoods and downtown near Bidwell Park.

Moreno says crews are still investigating the outages, but it likely was a weather related issue. The ongoing storms have caused a number of outages in the North State.

Customers can get updates on power outages on the company’s website or by calling 1-800-PGE-5002.

Previous story update

About 6,000 PG&E customers in Chico and Durham are without power this afternoon.

PG&E spokesperson Paul Moreno told NSPR that the outage was impacting areas of south Chico, Chapmantown, the Barber neighborhood and areas east of downtown and near Bidwell Park.

Crews are on the scene investigating the cause of the outage. Moreno said once the cause is identified, they will begin to resolve the issue by isolating the trouble spot, resetting the equipment and beginning the power restoration process.

“Once we have an estimated time for restoration, we'll be able to notify customers of that,” Moreno said.

Customers can get live updates on power outages on the company’s website or by calling 1-800-PGE-5002.

“You can enter your address and get updates by voice call, text or email or all three … on your power restoration status,” he said.

Crews have been called in from nearby areas to assist with the restoration process.

“Throughout the North State, we've had a number of power outages since the storm began moving in late Tuesday night,” Moreno said. “The North Valley region has been impacted by numerous outages because the storm system has really only impacted the North State.”

Moreno said PG&E has been able to draw on crews from the Central Valley, which is not currently impacted by the storm.

“They can assist and help local crews,” he said. “That way we get power back on more quickly, because we do work 24 hours a day until the last customer is back on.”

With wet weather expected for the next several days, Moreno recommended people keep a flashlight nearby and keep their phones fully charged.
