The Redding Library reopens tomorrow after being partially closed for more than six months.
Since August, the building has been undergoing major renovations and modernization upgrades funded by a nearly $800,000 California State Library grant.
What’s new inside the library
Shasta Scout reports shelving, security and technology all saw upgrades. The space will also now offer guests a newly-designed family area, improved seating, new study spaces, new computers and new carpeting and vinyl floors.
Security improvements are also part of the project, with 36 security cameras installed.
The facility might also be better prepared for incoming power failures. Part of the library’s remodel included installing a backup power generator to take over during outages.
Delays extended the closure
What was meant to be a two-to-three month closure turned into six because of construction delays. The project hit a major setback when crews had to pull up the flooring and reinstall shelves to make everything line up.
The library has been operating limited services since its initial closure in August, but will return to normal hours and programming once it reopens.
