The privacy of transgender students has become a controversial topic for school boards across the state. Anderson Union High School District in Shasta County has implemented a policy that requires staff to notify parents if a student asks to use a name or gender identity that is different from what’s on their school records. Also, the city of Willows has opted to form its own law enforcement agency after a contract with the county sheriff’s department has ended, and the Klamath National Forest says cooler temperatures and shorter days have led to ideal conditions for prescribed burning.

80% partial solar eclipse could be visible this weekend | PG&E to begin remediation work on Butte Creek canal breach | Shasta supervisors double down saying they won’t comply with ballot hand-counting ban
North State residents could be able to see a remarkable partial solar eclipse on Saturday. The eclipse will appear as a “ring of fire,” as the moon’s orbit passes between the earth and the sun, blocking all but a narrow outer ring of the sun’s light. Also, Pacific Gas and Electric now has the go ahead to proceed with clean up of Butte Creek following a canal failure this summer, and the Shasta County Board of Supervisors has doubled down on their opposition to a new law barring hand-counting ballots in elections in counties with more than 1,000 registered voters.
