Wildfire missing from Newsom’s State of the State speech | Chico PD to encrypt radio communications | Paradise water supply meets quality standards
Gov. Gavin Newsom gave his annual State of the State Address yesterday. He mainly focused on policy accomplishments over the last year. He did mention some challenges, but wildfire wasn't one of them. Also, the Chico Police Department is working on encrypting its radio communications, and the town of Paradise’s water supply meets or exceeds state and federal public health standards.

Thompson Fire in Oroville | Chico’s only cooling center opens | Redding’s Good News Rescue Mission extends stays
More than 40 zones in northeast Oroville were put under evacuation in a matter of hours. Also, amid another triple-digit heat wave Chico residents now have a dedicated place to cool off after local nonprofit Safe Space opened a cooling center, and unhoused residents can now stay longer at the Good News Rescue Mission in Redding.

Safe Space cooling center opens | PSPS for some of the North State today | Free fishing day this weekend
As temperatures rise, there are few public places to escape the heat. The nonprofit Safe Space will be opening a cooling center, but it's only confirmed to last for the next two weeks. Also, PG&E may shut off power today in parts of the North State, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife is offering two free fishing days this summer.

Grand Jury finds poor staph infection screening at Shasta County Jail | Oroville setting up non-emergency report system | Butte County holds meetings for no-cost building plans
A report from the Shasta County Grand Jury found that inmates at the local jail were not properly screened or treated for MRSA, a staph infection that is contagious and prevalent in jails, prisons and hospitals. Also, the city of Oroville is looking to overhaul the way citizens report non-emergency needs, and Butte County will hold two more community meetings about a new program to provide no-cost building plans that are suitable for disaster recovery housing.

Seniors react to Chico's denial of rent stabilization for mobile home parks | New Shasta County Registrar of Voters | Hotel Marysville risks collapse
Senior mobile home park residents led a long fight for rent stabilization in Chico but were shot down by a 2-4 council vote. Also, Shasta County supervisors have selected a former deputy district attorney with no experience managing elections as the new Registrar of Voters, and a new report found that the historic Hotel Marysville is at risk of collapse and may need to be demolished after a fire.
