California assemblymember talks affordable housing in Chico | Mt. Shasta’s glacier suffering climate change effects | Another increase to state water supply allocations
A panel discussion on affordable housing drew large attendance in Chico. Local affordable housing advocates and experts were joined by a state assemblyman who has a plan for “social housing.” Also, one scientist says climate change is taking its toll on the glacier atop Mt. Shasta as well as others in the state, and California increases water supply allocation again this year.

ICE’s access to Butte County Jail last year | Runner-up for Shasta supervisor seat backtracks on request for recount | Chico’s Thursday Night Market is back tomorrow
Eleven inmates at the Butte County Jail were flagged for possible detention by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement last year. But, Sheriff Kory Honea told supervisors at this week’s meeting that ICE did not pick up any of them. Also, the runner-up for a seat on the Shasta County Board of Supervisors asked election officials for a recount. Now she’s backtracked, and Chico’s Thursday Night Market is back tomorrow and it will be bigger than ever.

23 unhoused residents cleared from Chico encampments | Butte supervisors consider $5.2 million grant | Paradise to send sewage to Chico’s treatment facility
The city of Chico is continuing to clear homeless encampments throughout the city. In its most recent enforcement, three encampments were cleared forcing 23 residents to relocate. Also, the Paradise Town Council is expected to vote on a plan for acquiring easements along the route of a proposed sewer line connection with Chico’s water treatment facility, and the Butte County Board of Supervisors will consider approving a 5.2 million dollar grant from the state to help the behavioral health department expand its services.

Chico’s community fridge at risk of closure | Chico could have daily train route to Bay Area | Redding among top 100 places to live in U.S.
A community fridge in south Chico faces closure if not adopted by another operator. Also, plans to expand Chico’s passenger train routes to the Bay Area, high speed rail and the San Joaquin Valley are in the final stage, and Redding is among the top 100 best places to live in the U.S. according to livability.com that looked at small and mid-sized communities across the country with scores based on economic variables and factors that influence quality of life, including affordability.
