Orland groundwater project stalled | Enloe Medical Center hosts beam signing | Corning sees increases in water rates
A large DWR funded project to upgrade Orland’s water system is behind schedule and a vote by the city council tomorrow may determine whether the grant will cover all the costs. Also, Enloe Medical Center gave staff, caregivers and donors a chance to be part of the construction of an upcoming cancer treatment center in Chico’s Merriam Park neighborhood, and the Corning City Council voted to increase water and sewer rates for residents.

Park Fire containment slowly increases | Lassen Volcanic National Park reopens | 1.5 million salmon released in California
The Park Fire has grown very little over the past few days. Firefighters are making progress on increasing containment. Also, visitors are now allowed back into parts of Lassen Volcanic National Park, and more than 1.5 million salmon were released into California’s reservoirs this spring.

Oroville City Council addresses homelessness | Another Shasta County top government official resigns | Forest Service builds fire station in Chico
City staff and council members decided to form a committee to further address homelessness in Oroville. Also, Shasta County’s Resource Management Director has resigned from his position, and a U.S. Forest Service fire station lost in the 2020 North Complex in Plumas County is being replaced by a new facility in Chico.

Park Fire remains challenge in Mill Creek canyon | Rapid rehousing program available to fire survivors | Residents visit local assistance center
The Park Fire continues to burn actively on its eastern perimeter in the Mill Creek drainage. Cal Fire said the fire was expected to remain active last night due to high temperatures, and no humidity recovery. Also, organizations in the North State are working to find housing for those experiencing homelessness. As the region now recovers from the Park Fire, True North Housing Alliance is trying to help, and residents impacted by the fire visit North Valley Plaza in Chico to connect with county services and nonprofits.

Unhoused residents asked to pack up at city’s alternative camping site | Park Fire sees increased activity in Mill Creek drainage | First case of West Nile Virus in Butte County
Fifteen of about 60 people who’ve been staying at the city of Chico’s alternative campsite on Eaton and Cohasset roads will be able to return after an “encampment cleanup” conducted by the city. Also, the Park Fire is fairly calm in most areas, but is making a hard push in the Mill Creek drainage area of Tehama County, and the first human case of West Nile Virus this season has been detected in Butte County.

Cohasset residents begin rebuilding process after Park Fire | Park Fire meetings in Red Bluff, Chester tonight | U.S. Forest Service builds new fire station
The community of Cohasset was one of the first affected by the Park Fire. Now, residents are returning to their homes, and taking the steps to begin rebuilding. Also, two meetings will be held about the Park Fire this evening. One will be in Red Bluff, the other in Chester. Both start at 6:30 p.m. And construction on a new fire station in Chico is slated to begin next week.

Park Fire victims may be eligible for insurance aid | Returning to Forest Ranch | Local assistance center to open next week
Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara announced insurance protections for those impacted by the Park Fire. He also reminded residents about common aid available through their insurance policies. Also, we get an update on Forest Ranch where residents have been returning home after being evacuated, and officials say they’re opening a local assistance center next week for those impacted by the fire.
