Councilors clash over decision to challenge Warren v. Chico | Law firm responds to city’s exit letter | Tehama County employees unhappy with administrators
We’re continuing to cover the city of Chico’s announcement this week that it hopes to change the terms of Warren v. Chico — a settlement agreement that outlines its homelessness policy for clearing encampments. In a letter responding to the city, the law firm representing the unhoused plaintiffs in the 2021 case pushes back. Also, Councilmember Tom van Overbeek says he supports the city’s move to challenge the settlement and says Councilmember Addison Winslow is incorrect about the details. And members of Tehama County’s largest employee union have declared no confidence in the Chief Administrative Officer and Personnel Director.

Butte Humane Society helping microchip pets ahead of another disaster | Yuba County to generate electricity from biomass | PG&E expands programs to aid residents with bill costs
Butte Humane Society is offering to microchip residents’ pets for free to help them get back to their owners during disasters. They also have a Pet Food Pantry available for Park Fire survivors. Also, a biomass plant is set to be built in Yuba County later this year and will convert wood waste from wildland fuel reduction projects into electricity, and PG&E is expanding programs to help residents pay past due energy bills.
