Thompson Fire fully contained | Butte County fire survivor hotline opens | California has 10 measures for upcoming election
Officials announced full containment of the Thompson Fire yesterday and said residents should stay ready to evacuate possible future fires. Also, Butte County fire survivors now have a hotline they can call to get information about resources, and California voters will face 10 state-wide propositions in this fall’s general election.

Thompson Fire 98% contained | Redding hits record high temperature | Chico council to discuss Warren v. Chico in special closed session meeting
Cal Fire released its completed damage assessment of the Thompson Fire yesterday. The report says 26 structures were destroyed — 13 were homes and 13 other "minor" structures. Also, Redding hit a record-breaking 119 degrees Fahrenheit over the weekend, and Chico’s city council will gather for a special meeting about Warren v. Chico tomorrow.

Judge orders documents to be released for Tyler Rushing police killing | COVID-19 increasing in California | Help for increased coolings costs
The city of Chico is being ordered to release information surrounding the 2017 police killing of Tyler Rushing. Also, health officials are urging the public to get vaccinated against the newest strains of COVID-19, and as a prolonged heat wave continues in the North State residents may struggle to pay their electricity bills.

Chico testing water at sanctioned campsite for unhoused residents | Railbridge Fire 30% contained | Residents near Thompson Fire protected from insurance non-renewals
The city of Chico is looking into reports of potential contamination in water at its sanctioned alternative campsite for unhoused residents. Also, a fast-moving grassfire in Butte County yesterday prompted evacuations. Forward progress was quickly stopped, but Cal Fire says it’s another reminder to be ready to evacuate, and California has ordered insurance companies to keep policies in place for those affected by the Thompson Fire.

No contamination found in water test at city of Chico’s sanctioned encampment | Candidacy process for Chico City Council seats begins | West Nile Virus detected in Butte County
The Butte County Public Health Department says lab tests of water at the city of Chico’s sanctioned encampment have come back clear of contamination. Also, the majority of council seats are close to the end of their four-year terms. New candidates can begin the candidacy process this week, and the Butte County Mosquito and Vector Control District announced that West Nile Virus is now active in Butte County.

Park Fire containment slowly increases | Lassen Volcanic National Park reopens | 1.5 million salmon released in California
The Park Fire has grown very little over the past few days. Firefighters are making progress on increasing containment. Also, visitors are now allowed back into parts of Lassen Volcanic National Park, and more than 1.5 million salmon were released into California’s reservoirs this spring.

Park Fire victims may be eligible for insurance aid | Returning to Forest Ranch | Local assistance center to open next week
Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara announced insurance protections for those impacted by the Park Fire. He also reminded residents about common aid available through their insurance policies. Also, we get an update on Forest Ranch where residents have been returning home after being evacuated, and officials say they’re opening a local assistance center next week for those impacted by the fire.

Officials say watch for hotspots during repopulation | Don’t go into areas under evacuation order — or else | Water shut off for some in Forest Ranch ahead of toxic chemical testing
Firefighters are working to mop up hotspots in communities, but Butte County’s fire chief says they don’t always get them all. He’s warning residents to be cautious when repopulating areas the fire burned through. Also, Tehama County’s sheriff says he’s taking a ‘no nonsense stance’ on anyone going behind fire lines, and when a wildfire superheats PVC pipes they can release the carcinogenic chemical benzine into the water supply. Following the Park Fire, many in Forest Ranch have had their water disconnected so officials can test the water for the chemical.
