Hate speech flyers distributed in Chico and Redding

Flyers containing antisemitic and LGBTQ hate speech were distributed in Redding and Chico over the last week. Chico police officers responded to reports of antisemitic flyers on Arcadian Avenue Monday. Over the weekend, the Redding Police Department reported that more than 100 hate flyers were distributed in the Country Heights subdivision.

Butte County remains in drought despite recent winter storms

A series of atmospheric river storms starting in late December dumped trillions of gallons of water on California, but the region still remains in moderate to severe drought. Officials from the Butte County Office of Emergency Management told the Board of Supervisors this week that 87 county residents are having water hauled to them due to dry wells.

Report shows communities hit by frequent fires are often low-income

A new report led by researchers at Stanford and the University of North Carolina found that areas experiencing frequent wildfires tend to be low-income. Researchers say the study could help California bring aid to vulnerable communities.

New bill aims to address gaps in homelessness aid

California has poured billions of dollars into reducing homelessness in recent years. But residents, state and local officials are frustrated over an apparent lack of progress. A new proposal in the California Legislature aims to bridge disagreements between Gov. Gavin Newsom and local government leaders on the issue.
