Songs From Studio C: A Year in Review
By Nolan Ford
Songs From Studio C is North State Public Radio's in-studio music performance series that launched in November 2015. Since then, we've released 30 sessions with artists from across the North State and beyond. The show is edited into four-minute segments that can be heard within All Things Considered and Morning Edition, but we also produce high-definition videos of each guest's performance. Those can be found on our website along with the full, unedited audio interviews conducted with each artist.
The show's mission is to provide a platform for lesser-known musicians to demonstrate their talent for live performance, and to share the stories behind their songs as well as the methods behind their craft. I've learned that writing a song can be very simple or extremely complex, but the path to great art is often guided by something mystical that you can't quite put your finger on. Songs From Studio C strives to explore that space and shine a light on it—both figuratively and literally (with video). It's an honor and a privilege to produce this show, and I'm very excited to start unveiling our "Season 2" guests in 2017. But in the meantime, let’s take a look back at five of my favorite performances from the past year. Thank you for supporting NSPR and making this show possible.
