Environmentalist Bill McKibben To Speak On Cimate Change In Chico

Journalist, author and environmental campaigner Bill McKibben is scheduled to speak in Chico on Friday.

A onetime writer for The New Yorker magazine, McKibben has focused his energy on raising awareness about climate change since his first book, "The End of Nature," was published in 1989.

In 2007 McKibben cofounded the group and website 350.org. The organization derives its name from a paper stating that a tipping point for the climate could be reached if atmospheric carbon dioxide exceeds 350 parts per million.

Findings recently released by NASA a month ago showed global CO2 levels exceeding 400 parts per million for the first time.

McKibben is scheduled to speak beginning at 6 p.m. at the Chico Masonic Family Center on West East Avenue. The event is a benefit for the Butte Environmental Council and community radio station KZFR.
