Democrats Counter Brown's Budget Proposal

California lawmakers are moving forward with their own state budget proposal as negotiations continue with Gov. Jerry Brown.

Majority Democrats have united behind a plan that includes more money for child care and preschool programs; partially restores Medi-Cal provider rates; and increases state support for the UC and CSU.

The governor is trying to limit new spending, and it’s unclear if a deal will be reached before Monday’s constitutional deadline for the Legislature to pass a budget.
