Plan For Giant Water Slide In Downtown Redding Canceled

Refresh Redding

The giant 1,000-foot water slide that was scheduled for downtown Redding on July 18 has been canceled.

Promoter Rocky Slaughter told the Redding Record Searchlight that he had reconsidered his position due to the extreme drought gripping the state.

The event was originally billed as a way to also educate the community about conservation, and that water for the slide would have been trucked in from out of state.

Slaughter obtained a permit from the city in May, but says after hearing that residents have reached a 36 percent reduction in water usage he changed his mind. He told the paper he may still hold a festival in August at the Redding Aquatic Center.
