Shasta County Opens COVID-19 Vaccines To Everyone 16 And Older

Valerie & Valise

As of Monday, all Shasta County residents aged 16 and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

Kerri Schuette is the program manager for Shasta County Health and Human Services. She said many high school students return to school for full in-person instruction after this week’s spring break, which is one of the reasons the county expanded eligibility earlier than the state.

“We felt that that would be a good way to start, really building some protection between those kids since they’re going to be in closer contact than they have been before,” Schuette said.

The Pfizer vaccine is the only one authorized for 16- and 17-year-olds, and a parent must be present at the time of vaccination.

A Pfizer vaccination clinic is scheduled for Friday, April 9 at Shasta College. More clinics are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Rite Aid in Anderson.

Registration information can be found at ShastaReady.org or by calling 530-245-7890.
