Redding has a new mayor. Missy McArthur will serve a one-year term following her selection Tuesday night during the Redding City Council’s annual reorganization. McArthur previously served as mayor in 2011.
Outgoing mayor Francie Sullivan said she has a different perspective of city staff since her time as mayor.
"I have a whole new appreciation for the lights going on and the toilets flushing and the garbage going away,” Sullivan said. “I know how that happens now.”
In last night’s meeting, McArthur presided over council votes on a new capital improvement plan for the city and for the airport. She also headed up a vote to allow the Shasta Fly Fishers to pay less than prevailing wage on the construction of their new clubhouse which will sit on city property in the Stillwater Preserve.
The council voted to bring back retiring Support Services Manager Rod Dinger on a temporary basis to allow him to assist with a staff transition at the Redding Municipal Airport. As part of a cost-cutting move, his position was done away with during a recent shuffling of management positions within the city.
