Sierra Nevada Launching Two New Beer Varieties

Two new experimental varieties will join Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.’s permanent lineup in January, the Chico-based brewer announced Monday.

Sidecar Orange Pale Ale adds a citrus twist to the iconic Pale Ale. The variety, recently available in the company’s Chico taproom, uses citrus-heavy hops and orange peel to deliver distinctive flavors.

The other new entry, Tropical Torpedo IPA, uses the firm’s proprietary “Hop Tornado,” brewed with hops that infuse the ale with hints of mango, papaya and passionfruit. The offering is entirely distinct from the similarly named Beer-Camp Tropical IPA, while was available in the spring.

“Innovation is part of our DNA,” said founder Ken Grossman, who added that the new brews add a fresh take on the hop-forward beer the company pioneered.

The company’s second brewery, which opened in North Carolina two years ago, has enabled Sierra Nevada to increase production and broaden its product line.

The new brews should start appearing on store shelves beginning January 1.
