PG&E says it will start shutting off power at 8 p.m. Wednesday and will continue throughout the evening. It currently estimates most impacted customers will have their power restored late Friday.
The shutoff comes as hot, dry, windy weather is expected in these areas. PG&E says this weather poses a higher risk for damage to its electrical system, which could spark a wildfire in areas with dry vegetation. So far 31 people have died in wildfires this year, with more than 4.1 million acres burned in the state.
PG&E cut power to around 41,000 customers in Northern California just one week ago, the fourth time the utility has done so this year. Cal Fire is investigating PG&E's role in sparking the Zogg Fire that killed four people in Shasta County.

If you do fall within the blackout area, this does not mean that you will definitely lose power, just that you are within the area that PG&E may shut off power to.
