Chico’s public library could be getting security upgrades after the deadly shooting there in June.
The Butte County Board of Supervisors will consider building improvements at their meeting on Sept. 8.
Upgrades would include new exterior and interior doors fitted with special safety hardware, panic buttons at staff desks and a new PA system, among other enhancements.
In a report to supervisors, the Department of General Services says it reviewed the library's design “following recent events” and got advice from security consultants.
The new features would be for both the Chico and Oroville library branches, which are currently undergoing renovations.
The security additions would cost around $130,000.
A preliminary hearing for the man charged in the library shooting is set for Sept. 29.
