Winning candidates in city council races throughout Butte County are scheduled to be seated this week. Registrar Candace Grubbs certified results for the November 3rd election last week, paving the way for Gridley to swear in its winners Monday.

New members on the Chico City Council and Paradise Town Council are scheduled to be seated Tuesday. Grubbs says the county’s vote-by-mail system largely ran smoothly.

“The Post Office bent over backwards,” she said. “They even gathered up ballots on election night and brought them into us. I’m really pleased with their work. We didn’t have that many that we could not count because they were postmarked the 4th or the 5th.”

Voter turnout in Butte County nearly reached 83 percent, with more than 103,000 ballots cast. That’s up about 6 percentage points from the 2016 election.
