Art takes various forms, from theatre to caricatures, from improv to burlesque. Whatever it is, Sierra Hall has dabbled in it.
Hall is the arts. They are heavily involved in all aspects of the Chico art scene and aren’t afraid to tackle any form.
“I love performing in any way I possibly can. People say they don't know what to expect when I perform, because I just try to do it all.”— Sierra Hall, performer
“It's just such an incredible space, just a very welcoming and open place where you can be weird, you can be yourself, you can be whatever you want to be,” Hall said. “And there are just people who will support and love you.”
Hall's unwavering passion lies in the art of performance. For them, the stage is a sanctuary, a vibrant arena where they can carefully craft a journey for those watching.
“I love performing in any way I possibly can. People say they don't know what to expect when I perform, because I just try to do it all,” Hall said.
More recently, Hall has expanded their artistic world into burlesque and drag.

Inspired by the limitless boundaries of burlesque and the world of drag queens, including RuPaul’s Drag Race, Hall's new endeavor has taken off.
She recently debuted a clowning act, performing as a rainbow clown with a juggling routine at Duffy's Tavern during Pride month — a time that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and commemorates the Stonewall riots, which took place in June 1969.
“It's an act of revolution, in my opinion, to just be yourself and put yourself out there, like experimenting with gender expression,” Hall said.
Theatre beginnings and beyond
Hall’s journey started in musical theater in Chico at the age of nine through The Blue Room Company’s production of “Alice in Wonderland Jr.”
As a theatre kid, this experience ignited an enthusiasm that led them to various theater companies in the area, including Theater on the Ridge and Chico Theater Company.

“I used to listen to ‘Into the Woods’ with my mom in the car growing up,” Hall said. “That was just our thing.”
Hall continues to audition around town and isn’t afraid to take on more than your average made-for-Broadway revival.
One of her most recent projects includes "Lizzie The Musical." Backed by a searing rock score, the performance tells the story of Lizzie Borden, a national figure blamed for the murders of her father and stepmother. She was, also part of “Amy, Amy, Amy! An Amy Winehouse Revue," which was a tribute to the late singer that showcased Winehouse’s life.
“I especially just love live performing, because I love that energy between an audience and a performer,” Hall said. “There's just that give and take, and I've just always loved to read a room and try to entertain people.”
Hall is exploring immersive theater. It differs from traditional theater by eliminating the stage and fully integrating audiences into the performance.
Clowning around and caricatures
If Hall isn’t booked to perform on a local stage, you’ll likely see them drawing at the Thursday Night Market in Chico.
“One of my favorite things is, once I'm done drawing, and it's time for the reveal,, and I'm peeling it off, and there's this anticipation,”— Sierra Hall, performer
Hall began the tradition at the age of 15 with her father designing her a booth.
It would later lead to the creation of Sisismiles, a party business run by Hall that offers princess parties, caricatures, musical performances, games, and face-painting.
“I get a glimpse of their smile, and I try to capture it as best I can,” Hall said.
Hall spends time at farmers' markets around town drawing caricatures of locals and strangers.
“One of my favorite things is, once I'm done drawing, and it's time for the reveal, and I'm peeling it off, and there's this anticipation,” Hall said.

Hall admits there’s still room for growth in creating these caricatures.
“That is also part of what makes it very vulnerable for me, I'm like, I hope you like it,” Hall said.
