A leaked chart obtained by POLITICO is revealing who might win and lose in California’s proposed congressional redistricting.

The plan is backed by Democratic leaders and could target five Republican-held seats, including two in the North State.

Those are represented by U.S. Congressmen Doug LaMalfa and Kevin Kiley. Under the leaked projections, both districts would lean “safe Democratic” rather than “safe Republican.”

A chart circulated to state lawmakers Wednesday and obtained by POLITICO shows changes in the voter makeup of California’s congressional districts under a proposed new map.

Redistricting supporters say it’s needed to counter GOP-led changes in states like Texas.

Critics argue it’s political gerrymandering — which is legal, according to previous reporting by NSPR.

Lawmakers have until Aug. 22 to decide whether to send the plan to voters in a special election. The proposed maps are expected to be released today.
