Nearly 150,000 North State residents could see delays in their CalFresh benefits if the federal government shutdown continues. The program, known nationally as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, helps low-income households pay for food.
"Unless they have other sources of income to mitigate their need, this will be a huge hit to the funds that they have available to buy groceries," said Holly Weld, a program manager with the Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency.
Weld said residents in need are being directed to their local food banks and community members are being urged to donate food or money.
Below is a list of food banks and community programs in the region and by county.
North State resources
- The Butte Community Action Agency delivers food to Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Plumas and Sierra counties. It hosts in-person food pantries, and drive-through pantries throughout the year. The calendar for when these services are available are on the agency's website.
- The North Valley Community Food Bank has multiple locations across Colusa, Tehama and Glenn counties. Locations can be found on their website.
- The Food Bank of Northern Nevada provides food to pantries in Lassen and Plumas counties. The schedule for those locations can be found here.
- The Partnership Health Plan of California has a list of community resources by county, including food banks and other community assistance organizations
Butte - Chico
- The South Chico Community Assistance Center hosts food pantries on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month from 2-4 p.m. More information is available on its website.
Glenn
- According to the Glenn County Health and Human Services Agency, there are regular food banks in Willows and Orland.
Willows - Mondays from 9-11a.m.
- Food Bank assistance in Willows is located at 543 W. First Avenue and is provided by the Adventist Community Service group at the Willows Adventist Church.
Orland - Mondays from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and Wednesdays from 3-5 p.m.
- Food Bank assistance in Orland is located at 19 Colusa Street and is provided by the Orland Pantry at the First Lutheran Church. The Orland Pantry provides food assistance to residents of Orland, Capay, Artois and Hamilton City.
Colusa
- The North Valley Community Food Bank serves Colusa County. A calendar and list of locations can be found on their website.
Lassen
The Food Bank of Northern Nevada provides food to pantries in Lassen and Plumas counties. The schedule for those locations can be found here
Plumas
- The Food Bank of Northern Nevada provides food to pantries in Lassen and Plumas counties. The schedule for those locations can be found here
Shasta - Redding
- Dignity Health Connected Living hosts food pantries across the county every week. Their calendar is available here.

Siskiyou
- The Siskiyou Community Food Bank is usually open Mondays and Thursdays from 1-3:45 p.m. They will be expanding their hours in November if benefits are delayed. More information is available on their website.
Sutter
- Sutter County Health and Human Services has a list of community aid resources on its website, including food pantries.
Tehama
- The North Valley Community Food Bank serves Tehama County. A calendar and list of locations can be found on their website.
Trinity
- The Trinity County Community Development Department has a list of food pantries and their schedules on its website.
- The Trinity County Food Bank delivers to multiple locations across the county. The delivery schedule is available on its website.
Yuba
- The Yuba-Sutter Food Bank has sites across both counties. The calendar and list of distribution sites is available here.
