Though untouched by flames, changes have come to Chico since November. Tonight elected leaders there consider impacts and how to ease them.
At the council’s request, reports covering crime, roadway conditions, and appropriate levels of municipal staffing to serve Chico’s swollen, post-camp-fire population will be presented.
The council is expected to investigate seeking additional patrols from the California Highway Patrol and the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, and possibly seek partnerships with other agencies to help provide services.
The council will be asked for $45,000 to help protect the homeless from extreme weather over the next sixteen months. If approved, the money would be granted to the Jesus Center, a homeless services provider, to operate a respite center from both extreme summer heat, and extreme winter cold.
Also tonight, the council will take up outreach as it begins developing a long range strategic plan. The plan would set a roadmap and goals for Chico to achieve over the next twenty to thirty years. Officials are expected to announce ways to encourage local residents to help develop the plan.
The meeting gets underway in the Chico City Council Chambers this evening at six.
