New plan for Butte County’s waste, recycling facility | Karuk Tribe holds canoe workshop | Rivers cold, swift due to snowmelt
Butte County supervisors will consider a new master plan for the Neal Road Recycling and Waste Facility. They will also consider a fee increase to fund and maintain it. Also, members of the Karuk Tribe are bringing back the ancient tradition of crafting dugout canoes, and North State recreators are being advised to be cautious about swimming in rivers, as spring snowmelt means streams are frigid and swift.

Another area code is coming to the 530 region | Trinity County Animal Shelter at capacity | Butte County discusses 45 percent increase on dumping fees at Neal Road landfill
North State residents will have an additional area code starting in 2025. The California Public Utilities Commission will assign 837 as another area code in the region for some new numbers. Also, the Trinity County Animal Shelter is urgently asking for help finding new homes for its dogs, and Butte County supervisors discussed a more than 45 percent increase on dumping fees at the Neal Road Recycling and Waste Facility.

Butte County’s proposed evacuation routes | Yuba-Sutter Transit loses bus tracking app | Shakespeare in the Park returns to Chico
Several weeks of community meetings are giving the Butte County residents a say in how new evacuation plans might be improved. Also, bus riders in Yuba and Sutter counties who use an app to track when the bus arrives will no longer have access to that service, and Shakespeare in the Park returns to Chico this week.

Butte County still distributing free emergency Alert FM devices | New renovations for Bidwell Mansion | Sutter County issues hiring freeze due to budget deficit
During emergencies, power and internet outages can make it hard for rural residents to receive emergency alerts. Butte County is distributing free Alert FM devices that receive alerts via radio. Also, Bidwell Mansion in Chico remains closed this week as it undergoes renovations, and Sutter County is facing a serious budget shortfall and has issued a hiring freeze.
