Shasta County ad hoc committee on homelessness takes action | Chico shopping cart ordinance discussion tabled | California water agencies could soon turn wastewater into drinking water
Shasta County convened a multi-jurisdictional ad hoc committee on homelessness in June. The committee presented a two-year action plan last week to strengthen Shasta County’s response. Also, Chico’s City Council voted 7 to 0 to send a resolution deciding the amount of penalty costs for businesses whose shopping carts are found off-property. A new bike park will be underway on Humboldt Road, and the California Water Resources Control Board yesterday approved new rules for turning water from toilets and other uses into drinking water.

Oroville nonprofit distributes Narcan to the community | Chico City Council to discuss shopping cart retrieval fees | CN&R to suspend its print edition
The distribution of fentanyl has led to increased overdose deaths across the nation. In Oroville, one group is working to educate the public about the dangers of the drug, and provide life-saving overdose medicine to the community. Also, Chico’s recently adopted shopping cart ordinance may have its associated fees approved by the city council tonight, and the Chico News and Review has announced it will cease publication of its printed issues in January. The weekly will, however, carry forward with its digital publication.

Safe Space winter shelter opened Sunday | Butte County ends permanent hauled water discussion | PG&E asks for another rate hike
Chico’s only warming shelter opened its intake center yesterday. Some people waited at the center’s new downtown location days in advance to sign up. Also, Butte County supervisors have ended the discussion regarding whether hauled water can be a permanent water source for the county, and PG&E has asked state regulators to approve another rate hike.

Butte County explores allowing different water sources for disaster areas | Siskiyou County makes public information easier to get | California Farm Bureau elects first woman president, she lives in the North State
Butte County supervisors are looking at allowing disaster and drought areas to use delivered or hauled water kept in storage tanks more permanently. Also, Siskiyou County supervisors recently voted to eliminate costly public records fees, and the California Farm Bureau has elected its first woman president and she lives in Orland.

PG&E is being investigated following Butte Canal problems | Shasta County votes to hire fifth legal counsel candidate in a year | Pit River Tribe seeks national monument protections for Medicine Lake Highlands
PG&E is being investigated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission after allegations that it may not be complying with the terms of its license to operate the DeSabla-Centerville hydroelectric project. Also, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors voted this week to offer the role of county legal advisor to an unknown applicant. They’ve shared little information about the new candidate, beyond their concerns about how difficult it’s been keeping someone in the role, and California has replaced Bank of America with a new contractor to distribute unemployment, disability and paid leave funds following frequent scams involving debit cards used to pay recipients.
