Host Dave Schlom is joined by veteran space journalist Jeffrey Kluger to talk about his new book, Gemini: Stepping Stone to the Moon, The Untold Story.

After the first solo astronaut space flights of the U.S. Mercury program from 1961-63, NASA had to figure out a multitude of problems to pave the way for the Apollo missions that would eventually land on the Moon. From long-duration spaceflight of up to two weeks to the perils of spacewalks and the complexities of having two spacecraft rendezvous in orbit, Gemini solved all of those problems.

But it wasn't easy and in fact, it was dangerous. Kluger guides us through some amazing stories about the astronauts and the engineers that solved the problems of early spaceflight.

Dave Schlom is the longtime host and creator of Blue Dot. From surfing to Voyager in interstellar space, rock guitar to orcas in our imperiled oceans, the topics on Blue Dot are as varied as the host’s interests and connections -- which are pretty limitless! An internationally respected space history journalist, Dave is also deeply fascinated by all aspects of the grand workings of nature’s awesome machinery on scales ranging from galactic to subatomic. And topics take in all aspects of the arts and sciences.
