The Eel River

Host Dave Schlom is joined by Charles Schneider, a Connectivity Program Manager for California Trout, to discuss the human and natural history of California's third largest watershed, the Eel River. Located in northwestern California, the Eel passes through magnificent coastal mountains and redwood forests.

At one time, it was teeming with salmon and steelhead. Restoration efforts are underway to try to return some of the river's productivity by removing dams that have mostly lost their usefulness. From overfishing and logging to an explosion of illegal and now legal marijuana growing, the region has been under tremendous environmental assault. But hopefully, by better stewarding the watershed in the future, wild fish can return to a semblance of their former populations.

In the final segment of the show, Dave is joined by Publisher Tracey Diaz and Editor at Large George Revel to discuss the resurrection of California Fly Fisher magazine. It's a beautiful magazine with a new focus on the diverse natural history of the amazing places that people chase fish in the Golden State!
