Thousands attend annual grazing festival in Paradise

The second annual Paradise Grazing Festival returned over the weekend. Butte County residents were able to pet and do yoga with goats and find educational resources on wildfire prevention, mitigation and resilience. The event was held on Saturday at the Terry Ashe Recreation Center and was hosted by the Butte Council Fire Safe Council.

Older residents would have more protection from fraud under new bill

A bill intended to help investigators catch people suspected of scamming older Californians out of their savings is advancing in the state Legislature. If passed, the bill would give investigators access to financial records 90 days before and 90 days after alleged illegal activity.

Assembly approves oil profit penalty bill, sending it to Newsom

California lawmakers approved a bill to require new pricing transparency from oil companies. Gov. Gavin Newsom said he plans to sign the legislation today. Newsom has pushed for the legislation, arguing it will prevent price spikes at the pump. Read the full story.

New study shows the majority of prisoners are serving extra time for sentence enhancements

A new study by the non-partisan Public Policy Institute of California found that on any given day, more than 70% of California prison inmates are serving added years behind bars for sentence enhancements. The study also found that inland, rural and politically conservative counties in California have higher rates of sentence enhancements than coastal, urban and politically liberal counties.
