City pursues changes to Warren v. Chico agreement, says settlement is “unworkable"

The latest North State and California news on our airwaves for Thursday, July 18.

In today’s episode:

Chico is feeling reverberations of a Supreme Court decision last month that allows cities to crack down on homelessness. Yesterday, the city of Chico made a major announcement that it wants to change the conditions of Warren v. Chico, or else it’s going to try to get out of the settlement entirely. The settlement agreement prevents the city of Chico from enforcing anti-camping ordinances on homeless residents when there isn’t available shelter.

Widespread cases of diarrhea have been reported at the city of Chico’s alternative campsite on Eaton and Cohasset Roads. The illness has caused advocates to push for better conditions at the city-sanctioned encampment for unhoused residents.
