In depth — Gallagher, McGuire look ahead to November

The race for a full term in California’s 1st Congressional District is already moving from the June 2 primary to November.

Republican James Gallagher is on his way to Congress after winning the special election for the late Rep. Doug LaMalfa’s short-term vacancy.

But he’ll likely need to defend the seat against Democrat Mike McGuire in the fall general election.

McGuire is trying to convince voters that a vote for Gallagher is a vote for President Donald Trump’s agenda.

Meanwhile, Gallagher is trying to connect McGuire to Gov. Gavin Newsom, Prop. 50 redistricting and Democratic priorities in Sacramento.

NSPR’s Andre Byik breaks down how the contest is already shaping up.
