Thanksgiving Programming

Today and every day we are grateful for your support of North State Public Radio. By valuing a free press and informed public, you make the North State a better place to live. Thank you, from all of us at NSPR, and happy Thanksgiving!

This holiday, we’re happy to share with you some special, festive programs, including:

November 23 and 24: Up the Road: Harvest Trails II, 6:44 p.m., 7:45 a.m.

Host Kim Weir continues to explore the notion of “harvest,” with a farm-trail journey heading north along Highway 99. From the olive stops of Tehama County to a you-pick berry farm just south of Redding, this show highlights the bounty of the North State.

November 23: Milk Street Radio, 8 p.m.

Christopher Kimball shares a turkey recipe, a segment about vegetarian Thanksgiving with Dan Pashman, and a tip for Thanksgiving Day.

November 24: The Splendid Table’s Turkey Confidential, 9 to 11 a.m.

Host Lynne Rossetto Kasper comes to the rescue of Thanksgiving cooks, kitchen helpers, and dinner guests alike on the biggest cooking day of the year.

A Thanksgiving morning tradition, Lynne answers listener questions throughout this live, two-hour program with wit, expertise, and laughter. Have a question for Lynne (or a Thanksgiving disaster story to share)? Submit your question using this form, via Twitter (#turkeyconfidential), via Facebook, or call the hotline during the live show at 1-800-242-2828.

November 24: Cultivating Place: Winter Craft, 6 p.m.*

For Thanksgiving Day on Cultivating Place, we pay homage to the fall-winter urge to make artful, garden-inspired creations for doorways, gates, windows, and tabletops. Join us as we “gather” and “season to taste” a variety of seasonal plant crafts with gardener, stylist, and photographer Caitlin Atkinson and floral designer Alethea Harampolis. (*Cultivating Place and Blue Dot will be pre-empted during the 10 o’clock hour for Turkey Confidential.)

November 24: Evening Jazz, 9 p.m.

Host Tom Dryden spins some ’40s Big Band and American songbook hits as the evening soundtrack to your Thanksgiving—from Benny Goodman and Woody Herman to Glenn Miller and more.

November 25: Friday Night Grooves, 9 p.m.

A Beatles special! Three hours of music by The Beatles to keep the holiday going.

We’d also like to invite you to partake in The Great Thanksgiving Listen. All you have to do is interview a loved one this holiday with the StoryCorps app!

We hope you have a wonderful, radio-, food-, and family-filled Thanksgiving.
