Ric Machuga teaches philosophy at Butte College.  In this his latest book, he suggests we replace three bad ideas: mechanism, universal quantification and mono-causation with three good ideas: not all causes are mechanistic, all quantities are ultimately qualities, and full understanding requires dual-causation.

Author Pam Houston teaches at UC Davis was invited to Butte College for its WordSpring Creative Writing Conference. She calls her latest book of 144 vignettes fiction, but they are based on her own travels around the world.
