Local organizers across the North State are joining nationwide May Day demonstrations calling on community members to rally, boycott and skip work and school on Friday, May 1.
The history of May Day — or International Workers Day — dates back to the 19th century. It’s recognized around the world as a day of creating disruptions in the economy through protest.
Demonstrations in the North State will focus on defending democracy, taxing billionaires, opposing war and standing against Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Here’s where May Day protests are planned in the North State
- Forest Avenue and 20th Street near the Chico Mall, 4 p.m.
- 2225 Benton Drive, 2 p.m.
- Skyway and Oliver Road, 3:30 p.m.
- The Spot, 205 Pine St., 2 p.m.
- Washington Square Park, 10th Street and Hwy 20, 10 a.m.
- Brunswick Road at Sutton Way, 3 p.m.
