Quick reads — California sends wildfire crews to Colorado, returning Park Fire aid

California is sending firefighters to help battle a destructive wildfire in Colorado, returning the favor after the state assisted during a massive wildfire in Butte and Tehama counties.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced July 4 that Cal Fire is deploying 15 fire engines to the Aspen Acres Fire in southern Colorado. That's after Colorado sent crews to help California fight the 2024 Park Fire, which started in Chico and is the state's fourth-largest wildfire on record.

The Denver Post reports that the Aspen Acres Fire has destroyed hundreds of buildings and forced thousands of people to evacuate.
