Quick reads — Storm system set to bring rain, wind, mountain snow to North State
Redding residents challenge proposed jail site
Some Redding residents are taking legal action against the City and Shasta County over a proposed jail site focused on reentry and rehabilitation programs for inmates.
The Redding Record Searchlight reports that a plan to build a custody campus in Redding is now facing a lawsuit from nearby residents.
Those suing are part of the River Ranch Neighborhood Association. They say they’re worried about safety, property values and their water supply. Many rely on wells, and are concerned about potential contamination from pesticides that could be used on a planned farm on the site.
They’re asking for a full environmental review of the 91-acre piece of land to better understand impacts.
Redding's mayor says the lawsuit adds uncertainty about whether the project will move forward.
Rain, wind expected through Wednesday before warmer weekend returns
Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts. A storm system is expected to move to the North State soon.
The National Weather Service forecast calls for rain, mountain snow at higher elevations and gusty southerly winds beginning tonight or early tomorrow. There’s also a slight chance of thunderstorms across the region.
The system is expected to last through Wednesday and taper off Thursday. At that point, conditions should clear with warmer, dry weather returning by the weekend.
